Gazelle presents concept e-bike designed by Giugiaro Design

Renowned design studio Giugiaro Design was commissioned by Gazelle to design a concept bike that would bring top-level, internationally recognized design and optimal Dutch cycling comfort into perfect harmony. “A number of worldwide trends are greatly influencing the consumers’ need for mobility: urbanization, attention to the environment and a healthy lifestyle. European consumers are therefore increasingly using bicycles for transport, whether for recreational or practical purposes (such as commuting). The demands contemporary consumers make of their bikes are not just related to comfort, practicality and quality: they expect fashionable design as well. With the Concept E-bike by Giugiaro Design, Gazelle is taking the next innovative step in the evolution of the e-bike”, says Ferdi Ertekin, Marketing Manager of Gazelle.

The e-bike is the integration of Gazelle’s experience in optimal Dutch cycling comfort and Guigiaro Design’s stylish design. Gazelle contributed its expertise in terms of comfort, practicality and quality which it has been developing over the past 122 years. Giugiaro Design took these ergonomic considerations as a starting point to create an e-bike with a futuristic, functional design.

Nicola Guelfo, chief designer of Guigiaro Design: “This new e-bike perfectly integrates comfort and design. It is not merely the sum of various parts, but a completely balanced design. For example, the battery and motor are no longer just an add-on, but are incorporated into the frame.”

At the end of 2015, Gazelle will be launching this top design by Giugiaro in a very limited edition. As with former concept bikes, this concept bike offers Gazelle inspiration and innovation for its e-bike consumer line.

Gazelle: 122 years’ experience of producing bicycles

Since Gazelle was founded in 1892, it has been the most important bicycle manufacturer in the Netherlands and Belgium, producing more than 14 million bicycles over its lifetime. Gazelle already has 122 years’ experience which has given the firm a historic understanding of what consumers demand from their bicycles. Gazelle has been making concept bikes since 1986 that provide a glimpse of the future and include the latest cycling innovations. Many of the innovations in the concept bikes are later applied to the consumer lines.
